What is a File Compressor?

A file compressor shrinks the size of an image or file so it loads faster on the web, fits inside an email attachment limit, or takes less storage. This tool supports PNG, JPG, and WebP image compression, both lossy and lossless. Lossy compression trades a small amount of visual quality for a much smaller file, ideal for web and email. Lossless keeps every pixel intact for archival, print, or when transparency matters.

How to use this File Compressor

  1. 1

    Upload your file

Drag a PNG, JPG, or WebP into the upload area, or click to browse. You can compress multiple files in one batch.

  2. 2

    Choose compression mode

Pick lossy for the smallest size at web-acceptable quality, or lossless to preserve every pixel. For photos, lossy JPG or WebP usually wins. For logos and screenshots, lossless PNG keeps text crisp.

  3. 3

    Set the quality target

Slide between high compression and high quality. A quality of 75 to 85 is the sweet spot for most web images.

  4. 4

    Preview the result

Check the before and after to confirm the image still looks good at the new size. Most photos shrink 60 to 80 percent with no visible difference.

  5. 5

    Download the compressed file

Save the smaller file and use it for your website, email, or upload destination. Original is never overwritten.

Frequently asked questions

Will compressing my image reduce its quality?

Lossy compression removes some detail the eye barely notices, so quality drops slightly but file size drops a lot. Lossless compression keeps quality identical and shrinks the file by removing redundant data only.

What is the difference between PNG, JPG, and WebP compression?

JPG is best for photos and uses lossy compression. PNG keeps transparency and lossless detail, ideal for logos and UI. WebP is a newer format that compresses better than both and is supported by all modern browsers.

Is there a file size limit?

The compressor handles typical web and email images up to around 50 MB per file. For very large images, resize the dimensions first, then compress.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Compression runs in your browser when possible, so files do not leave your device for most formats. Nothing is stored on our end after you close the tab.

How much smaller will my image get?

Photos typically drop 60 to 80 percent in lossy mode at quality 80. PNGs with flat colors and screenshots can drop 30 to 50 percent in lossless mode. Results depend on the source image.

Can I use this as a free image compressor for my website?

Yes. The tool is free for personal and commercial use, including compressing images for client sites, e-commerce product photos, blog posts, and email marketing.
