What is a Password Generator?

A password generator creates random strings that are far harder to guess or brute-force than anything a human picks. Strong passwords mix length with a large character set: uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols. The longer and more varied the string, the more compute time an attacker needs, which is the whole point.

How to use this Password Generator

  1. 1

    Pick a length

Aim for at least 16 characters. For sensitive accounts, 20 or more is better.

  2. 2

    Choose character classes

Enable uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols. The more classes, the larger the search space.

  3. 3

    Exclude ambiguous characters

Optionally strip lookalikes like 0/O and 1/l/I if you ever need to type the password by hand.

  4. 4

    Generate and copy

Click generate, then copy to clipboard. The password never leaves your browser.

  5. 5

    Store in a manager

Save it in a password manager like 1Password, Bitwarden, or your browser keychain so you do not need to remember it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this password generator safe?

Yes. Passwords are generated entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.

How long should my password be?

For modern accounts, 16 characters with mixed classes is a strong baseline. For high-value accounts like email and banking, use 20 or more characters.

Should I use symbols?

Yes if the site allows them. Symbols expand the character set so each character adds more entropy. If a site rejects them, increase the length instead.

How often should I change my password?

Only change a password if it has been exposed in a breach or you suspect compromise. Routine forced rotation is no longer recommended by NIST.
